Sindh govt allows congregational prayers for Eid, Jumu’atul Wida

KARACHI (92 News) – The Sindh government announced their decison to allow congregational prayers on Eidul Fitr and Jumu’atul Wida. It is noteworthy that both days of great religious reverence and importance are to be observed under strict implementation of the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs) by the government. Addressing a press conference, Education minister Saeed Ghani said that prohibiting prayers when most other things have been restored would be unjust. Announcing the decision, the minister said that Eid prayers are to be held in wide open spaces with adequate distance between worshipers, he also said if a large crowd gathers at one place then they would have to wait their turn and pray after the first batch of worshipers are done with theirs. The provincial ministry also allowed congregations for auspicious night of Laylat al-Qadr which is denoted with the Quran first being sent down from Heaven to the world and also the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the prophet Muhammad (SAWW). Earlier, the federal government announced a six-day holiday on the festival of Eidul Fitr this year. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, May 22 to 27 (Friday to Wednesday) will be public holidays on the occasion of the Eidul Fitr festival. During the holidays all business, public places, community markets and shops will remain closed, read the notification. The notification reads that only essential items’ shops and medical stores will remain open during these holidays.
