Sindh is country’s most corrupt province, terms Justice Gulzar

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Supreme Court Justice Gulzar Ahmed has said that Sindh is the country’s most corrupt province on Thursday. A bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard a case pertaining to the Sukkur Press Club. During the hearing, the SC judge remarked every department of the Sindh province is suffering from corruption. “Not a single rupee of Sindh’s budget is spent on the public for whom there is nothing in the province,” he lamented. Referring to HIV outbreak in Larkana, he feared that the entire city will test positive for the epidemic slowly. “Sukkur city is in ruins. It is the hottest city yet people live in multi-storey buildings there. Neither is there electricity nor water,” Justice Gulzar said. He also remarked that there would be violence if the people won’t get basic amenities. “Why don’t you pull down high-rises,” he asked, pointing to Sukkur’s mayor. He observed that high-rises can’t be constructed in cities which experience sweltering heat during summer.

Most police officers involved in foul practices: Justice Gulzar

On another case, the Supreme Court observed the police system across Pakistan has failed. A bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heard a petition demanding an increase in salaries of Punjab’s traffic warden. Justice Gulzar said: “There doesn’t exist anything called police in the country.” He asked what have the police been doing which warrants an increase in their salaries? “They remain involved in foul practices despite the fact that they are being paid handsomely,” he added. The SC judge said government officers didn’t perform their duties diligently in a fair manner but remained worried about raise in allowances. Justice Gulzar said Punjab’s secretary finance doesn’t even know what his job is. The bench directed the state counsel to come prepared on the next hearing and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
