ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said that the situation in the country would have been like Sri Lanka if the government would have not made difficult decisions.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, he said that government had first time imposed the tax on petrol since it assumed the power.

He said that the government had imposed a tax of Rs10 on petrol and Rs5 on diesel. "We told the IMF that the government will not impose too much tax on the masses. An agreement will soon be signed with the IMF," he added.

The minister said that the government had not received an advance tax to meet the target. "The FBR has collected Rs763 billion as tax during the last month. The FBR did what it thought. We are thankful to all Pakistanis who paid taxes," he added.
