Six more fall prey to famine in Tharparkar, toll reaches 688

THARPARKAR (92 News) – Six more children died of famine in drought-hit Tharparkar’s different areas on Tuesday. An outbreak of water borne and food shortage diseases continued to claim lives in Thar as children suffered deprivation of food and water in Mithi while the relief activities in the area has not been launched by the local government. The death tally has been mounted to 688 while hundreds of other children are under treatment at various hospitals in Tharparkar and Mithi. The Sindh government is resorting to mere announcements while death toll in Tharparkar is rising as four more minors died at Civil Hospital Mithi. Meanwhile, Pakistan Army has set up Medical Mobile camps in Tharparkar and Umerkot districts to provide free medicines and medical facilities to the people. The first camp was established at Chachro where so far four thousand 837 patients were provided free off cost medical check up and medicines. Previously, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had formed a committee comprising of Information Adviser Maula Bux Chandio and Food Minister Nasir Shah to look into the situation of Thar but to no avail.
