Six new polio cases identified across country

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Six more polio cases have identified across country including two in Sindh confirmed by the province’s Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) on Thursday. The first case in Sindh, a three-year child, was reported in Union Council Laloo Raunk of Qambar district, sources at the Ministry of National Health said. Another case in the province, a 12-year-old boy, was infected by polio virus in Union Council Sehwan of district Jamshoro. Moreover, two little girls were infected by polio virus in Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan district. The cases of the girls, aged six months and one year, were confirmed by the concerned authorities. In previous month of December, the anti-polio drive have done across the country. During a five-day campaign in Punjab 19 million children under the age of five years administered anti-polio vaccine. In Sindh over 2.3 million children while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan over six point seven million and 2.5 million children up to five years of age administered anti-polio drops respectively. Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said the government is taking every possible step to rid the country of crippling polio virus. In a tweet on Saturday, she said that they are all united and determined for a healthy Pakistan. The special assistant appealed to the people to play their role in polio eradication by fully supporting the campaign. She noted that it is essential to administer the children anti-polio ddrops. “In this regard, more awareness is being created among the masses.” She said the polio vaccination will guarantee a healthy Pakistan. Firdous Ashiq Awan said the polio workers deserve appreciation who, despite being the victim at the hands of extremists, are discharging their responsibilities with full devotion.
