Social media can never be banned, clarifies Prime Minister Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan has clarified that the social media can never be banned in the country. Taking notice of a delay in the formulation of rules regarding Social Media Regulations, the prime minister directed the Information Technology Ministry and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to expedite work on social media regulations. "However, false campaigns to insult institutions and personalities cannot be allowed," he declared. Prime Minister Imran Khan directed that the opinion of relevant stakeholders should also be included in the formulation of rules. He has sought a progress report from Focal Person for Social Media Dr Arslan Khalid on the preparation of the Citizens Protection (Against Online Harm) Rules, 2020 in the next week.
