Speedy and inexpensive justice is our first priority, says CJP Umar Ata Bandial

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial has said that speedy and inexpensive justice is their first priority.

Addressing the 9th International Judicial Conference on Friday, he said that the judiciary is the custodian of the law and defender of the constitution.

"The judiciary is the guarantee of the basic rights and rule of law. It is aware of its responsibilities. It is responsibility of the state to safeguard the rights of the citizens," he maintained.

The CJP said that rule of the law is the focus of the judiciary. "The judiciary preserved the rights of the oppressed and the poor. It ordered the federal government for religious harmony and protection of the rights of the minorities," he added.

He said that the Supreme Court had closed the passage of the Doctrine of Necessity through the Sindh High Court Bar verdict.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial observed that the political leadership should hold dialogues for political stability. "We have to take immediate steps to deal with the climatic changes," he concluded.
