Squid Game actor O Yeong-su sentenced to one year in prison for sexual assault
SEOUL (Web Desk) South Korean actor O Yeong-su, famed for his role as Oh Il-nam (Player 001) in the Netflix series Squid Game, has been sentenced to one year in prison after being found guilty of indecent assault.
The 80-year-old actor, who had initially been sentenced to eight months in prison with two years suspended, saw his sentence increased following an appeal hearing.
The case involves allegations that O sexually assaulted a junior member of his theatre troupe in 2017.
Prosecutors argued that the veteran actor, with nearly five decades of experience, had exploited his position of power over the victim, who has since lived in fear.
Despite maintaining his innocence, O expressed regret in court, stating that he did not believe his actions constituted assault.
The final verdict of the appeal will be delivered on June 3, 2025.
