Statements recorded by JIT are not acceptable evidence: Nawaz Sharif
November 19, 2018
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Former premier Nawaz Sharif, while answering queries to the accountability court in the Al-Azizia reference, stated that the statements recorded by the joint investigation team during the probe were not acceptable evidence. He said that should they beg and not start business abroad when they were expelled from the country. The former premier said: “What was surprising thing if my sons sent money to me?” He said that the amounts sent to his accounts from abroad were rightly shown in the record. “A miscellaneous petition was filed in Supreme Court to reject the so-called evidence and report collected by the JIT. In the petition, I stated that the JIT is not more than an investigation agency. The statement recorded to the investigating agency cannot be produced as evidence in court,” he stated. Nawaz Sharif said that the JIT investigations were based on bias and without proofs and he had just submitted income tax returns, the wealth statement and wealth returns. He said that neither he is not related to Al-Azizia Steel Mills and nor he talked to Hassan and Hussain over the issue. “Hassan Nawaz had been exiled when he completed his education. My children started their business with the help of their grandfather. Hassan Nawaz got British nationality during his exile,” he contended. To a question about the dual nationality of Hassan Nawaz by Judge Arshadf Malik, he replied that Hassan Nawaz has dual nationality. Nawaz Sharif has replied to 120 out of 151 questions.
