Sting operation carried out by state to arrest Captain Safdar: Zubair

KARACHI (92 News) – Terming arrest of Captain (retd) Safdar an act of state terrorism, Muhammad Zubair, spokesperson of Maryam and Nawaz Sharif, has said that the state carried out a sting operation to arrest Captain (rtd) Safdar.

Speaking to the journalists, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) senior leader said that they are not afraid of cases and arrests. "Soon it will be revealed that who pressurized Sindh government to make the arrest, he added.

"A case was registered against Sindh police through pressure. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah confirmed that the Sindh government had nothing to do with the arrest," Zubair mentioned. "Workers have been stopped to take any action, the response of retaliation will be given politically across the country," he said.

Muhammad Zubair said that he was not allowed to enter the police station despite the fact that he is former governor of the province. He also warned of severe reaction all across the country if not allowed to enter the police station.

Earlier today, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz's husband Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar Awan has been arrested from the Avari Towers hotel by Sindh police for violating the sanctity of the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah on Monday.

According to the police, he has been arrested on charges of sloganeering at Quaid-e-Azam's tomb on Sunday.

It is pertinent to mention here that a video circulating on social media showed Safdar chanting 'vote ko izzat do' while standing next to Pakistan's founding father's tomb.

The case was registered against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders including PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, her husband Capt (R) Safdar Awan and 200 others at the Brigade Police Station for chanting slogans at the Mazar-e-Quaid.

After being arrested, he was taken to the Aziz Bhatti police station.

An FIR has been registered against him under sections 6 (prohibition on meetings), 8 (sanctity of the mazar) and 10 (penalty) of the Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Protection and Maintenance Ordinance, 1971 and Sections 506-B (criminal intimidation), 427 (mischief causing damage of Rs50) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The case was registered at the Brigade police station.
