Strict action to be taken against lawyers who attacked on PIC: Basharat
LAHORE (92 News) – Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat on Wednesday vowed that strict action would be taken against lawyers who attacked on Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
Addressing press conference along with Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid and Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, Raja Bahsarat said that some rioters have been identified with the help of CCTV footage while other lawyers would be arrested soon as the investigation has been commenced.
The Law minister said that 39 people have been arrested in relation to the attack by protesting lawyers in the city, which claimed life of one female patient and wounded several others. He said that dereliction of duty shown by police is also being investigated.
Raja Basharat said that the prime minister has taken notice of the incident and directed the Punjab government to take immediate action in this regard.
The law minister also strongly condemned the attack at PIC and vowed strict action against all those who were found guilty. “The hospitals are not attacked even during the war,” he said. “Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has also directed strict action against the lawyers,” he added.
On the occasion, the Punjab health minister said that at least three patients lost their life during the attack at PIC by riots.
“Doctors were made hostage by lawyers for almost two hours. Doctors chanted slogans against me when I reached the hospital to control the situation. I am with the PIC doctors and the first investigation report (FIR) would be registered against goons,” she added.
Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Chohan held Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) responsible for attack on him.
Addressing a press conference after lawyer incident in Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), the minister claimed that N-league is responsible for attack on him. “One of the lawyer, who attacked on me, is close aide of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz.
“I tried to mediate on the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar but the lawyers thrashed me. They tried to kidnap me and even opened fire behind my back side,” Fayyaz Chohan maintained.
The provincial minister said that the government will register first information reports (FIRs) against all responsible for the violence and hand them exemplary punishments.
The minister said that after arriving at the hospital and had 10 lawyers arrested. He also said that he had the lawyers arrested for their protection against police shelling.
“When I ran from the lawyers because they tried to kidnap me, I heard shots being fired,” he said. “The blame for this violence goes to the lawyers. We will register FIRs against them.”
