Struggle for right to self-determination will continue in IoK: Maleeha Lodhi

NEW YORK (92 News) – Pakistan's permanent representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi has on Monday said that the struggle for the right to self-determination will continue in the Indian-occupied Kashmir. Speaking in the UN General Assembly's Sixth Committee in New York, she once again tried to uncover the ugly face of atrocities being committed by the Indian forces in Occupied Kashmir. Pakistan's UN representative said that brutalization and oppression of people struggling for their legitimate right to self-determination is state terrorism. Ms Lodhi proposed United Nations Counter-Terrorism Strategy should focus attention on addressing unresolved disputes, foreign occupation and denial of right of self-determination as part of measures to stamp out terrorism. She said: “The provisions of the draft convention against terrorism should clearly distinguish between acts of terrorism and the legitimate struggles for self-determination.” The UN ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to eliminate terrorism, adding that Operation Zarb-e-Azb had made remarkable progress in cleansing the country of terrorists. Ms Lodhi stressed the need for addressing the root causes of terrorism.
