SYDNEY (Web Desk) Former Australian Test cricketer Stuart MacGill has been found guilty of being involved in the supply of cocaine after a Sydney court verdict on Thursday.
The 54-year-old, who played 44 Tests for Australia, was cleared of being involved in a large-scale drug transaction but was convicted on a lesser charge of knowingly taking part in drug supply.
The case centered on MacGill introducing his drug dealer to his brother-in-law, Marino Sotiropoulos, in April 2021, leading to the organisation of a deal for a kilogram of cocaine worth around AUD 330,000.
Although MacGill was not involved in the exchange, the jury found his role in the supply operation undeniable.
MacGill, who had previously admitted to using cocaine, maintained that his involvement was limited to the introduction at his restaurant, where the meeting took place.
It should also be noted here that MacGill, who will be sentenced in May after his hearing was adjourned for eight weeks, has faced personal struggles since retiring from cricket in 2008, including a high-profile kidnapping incident in 2021.
