Student group demand arrest of people involved in clash at PU

LAHORE (92 News) – Following a brief calm at the Punjab University early in the morning, a student group staged protest rally at the Canal Road demanding the arrest of people involved in yesterday’s violent clash at the Punjab University. The student group’s protest caused severe traffic mess in the area. Heavy contingent of police force reached the spot and took the situation in control. A police contingent was already deployed at the university to avoid any untoward incident. On the other hand, the varsity administration issued notice rusticating at least 35 students for their involvement in the violent clash. Meanwhile, Police have registered three cases against 100 unidentified students involved in the brawl, while 15 students were also nominated in the case. Terrorism clauses were also included in the cases against student groups. On Monday, a violent clash erupted between two student groups at the Punjab University left 19 students injured when the preparations for pioneer festival was underway. The attack resulted in fierce clashes between the two student groups in the campus. They also vandalized and set fire to the university’s electrical department. The clash, that also involved pelting of stones, turned the varsity into battlefield, prompting the administration to call police. The activists of a student group blocked the Campus bridge block and demanded that those involved in setting alight the Electrical Engineering department room should be arrested immediately. The law–enforcement agencies resorted to heavy tear-gas shelling and baton-charge to disperse the students. Several pupils were injured in the ensuing fight. The students also attacked police vehicles and broke the window panes. Police contingents reached the spot and dispersed the students and took the situation in control.
