Successful negotiations: Flour millers withdraw strike call announced for today

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Pakistan Flour Mills Association has announced to withdraw strike call announced for today after getting assurances from the government against their demands. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Syed Shabbar Zaidi and Jahangir Tareen from government side held negotiations with the representatives of flour millers on Tuesday and accepted their demands to withdraw duties imposed on flour, white flour and choker. On July 13, PFMA had earlier announced to postpone the countrywide strike of flour mills as of July 17. The central chairman, Naeem Butt, had said in a statement that the association would close all flour mills from coming Wednesday (July 17) if the government doesn’t withdraw sales tax on wheat and wheat bran (choker). The PFMA leader further warned to stop flour supply the same day. The flour millers had announced the strike side by side the traders’ group who are also protesting sales tax and value added tax on whole-sellers and retailers.
