ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa has said that the power of suo motu will be used only over a matter of national importance. Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the new judicial year on Wednesday, he said that suo motu taken on the demand of someone is not valid. He said that the draft about the use of the suo motu notice would be prepared before the meeting of the full court. “This matter will be resolved once for all,” he said. Asif Saeed Khosa said that distrust emerges by suppressing the voice or opinion of someone, which is dangerous for democratic system. The CJP termed the proceeding of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) the most difficult task. “The constitution empowers the President to direct the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to investigate the conduct of a judge,” he said. He said that the President’s complaint against a judge cannot affect the opinion of the Supreme Judicial Council. Asif Saeed Khosa said that there were 1.81 million pending cases in the beginning of the judicial year. “According to the Law and Justice Commission, the pending cases have been reduced to 1.78 million. Last year, 19,751 cases were registered in the Supreme Court. The apex court decided 57,684 cases last year,” he said. The CJP said that the SC had introduced the e-court system first time in the country. “The SC Principal Seat and its all registries were linked through the video link,” he maintained. CJP Asif Saeed Khosa said that a training workshop of civil judges was arranged in America.
