Supreme Court closes NRO case against Musharraf, Zardari
January 4, 2019
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court on Friday closed the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) case against former president Pervez Musharraf, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and former attorney general Justice (r) Malik Mohammad Qayyum. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case related to National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) passed by Musharraf in 2007. During the hearing, the chief justice remarked that the respondents including Zardari, Musharraf and Qayyum submitted their assets and bank account details. “The key progress has been come in the Omni Group case and now the law will pave its own way,” the top judge further said. The court then wrapped up the case petition against Musharraf, Zardari and Qayyum. It is pertinent to mention here that in April last year, nominating Musharraf, Zardari and Qayyum as respondents, petitioner Feroz Shah Gilani had requested the court to order recovery of ‘huge amounts of public money’ misappropriated and wasted by them through unlawful means already on record in different judgments of the Supreme Court and high court. He had contended that Musharraf subverted the Constitution by declaring emergency followed by the promulgation of the NRO, through which criminal and corruption cases against politicians, including Zardari, were arbitrarily withdrawn. https://92newshd.tv/sc-summons-10-year-record-of-zardari-musharrafs-assets-in-nro-case/#.XC83mWlS8dU In last year July, the SC has sought foreign assets details from former Presidents Asif Ali Zardari and Pervez Musharraf. The directions were issued in the NRO beneficiaries’ case in Islamabad. Asset details of former Attorney General Malik Qayyum were also sought. Meanwhile, Musharraf’s lawyer Akhtar Shah asked to give two-week extension so that he can file his reply. The court said that if the respondents have offshore companies, they should also declare them. The court has adjourned hearing of the case till August 7. https://92newshd.tv/supreme-court-to-hear-nro-case-on-january-4/#.XC83l2lS8dU On August 29, the apex court sought ten years record of national and foreign assets of former president Asif Ali Zardari and former military ruler Pervaiz Musharraf. https://92newshd.tv/nro-case-cj-seeks-foreign-assets-details-from-musharraf-zardari/#.XC83nmlS8dU The chief justice enraged over the leaking information about the affidavit of Zardari. Musharraf’s lawyer Akhtar Shah submitted the affidavit as per which, the ex-president possesses three cars abroad while he has 92,1000 dirham in foreign currency account. My client owns assets worth 5.4 million dirham, he revealed.
