Supreme Court upholds verdict to execute Shafqat Hussain

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected convict Shafqat Hussain’s appeal against implementation of the death sentence awarded to him by the Islamabad High Court. As per reports, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk, heard the appeal and later rejected it on the argument that how the administration can re-evaluate Shafqat Hussain’s age after the court's verdict. Shafqat Hussain was working as a watchman in Karachi in 2004 when a seven-year-old boy went missing from the neighbourhood. A few days later the boy’s family received calls from Hussain’s mobile phone demanding a ransom of half a million rupees. Hussain was arrested and admitted kidnapping and killing him. His death sentence has been deferred four times on account of a rights' movement by the civil society and international pressure.
