Taliban delegation, FM Qureshi discuss progress in Afghan peace process, Intra-Afghan Negotiations

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A delegation of the Taliban Political Commission (TPC), headed by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, called on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday.

Both sides exchanged their views on progress in the Afghan peace process and the Intra-Afghan Negotiations, which will commence in Doha on September 12, 2020.

Sheikh Hakeem was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said: "Pakistan will continue to support an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement for durable peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan and the region."

He said that the next round of talks will be held on January 5. "Only Taliban cannot be held responsible for peace. All stakeholders will have to play the role."

He said that the last two session of talks with the Afghan delegation had been fruitful. "Pakistan played its possible reconciliatory role in the Taliban-US peace agreement," he added.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that there was need for the world role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan and the Afghan peace process. "Peace in Afghanistan is vital for peace and stability in the region," he added.

He said that Pakistan had been hosting the Afghan refugees for decades. "We want respectful repatriation of the Afghan refugees and appeal to the world for cooperation in this regard," he added.

The minister said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor can be good source of promoting bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
