Tayyaba Torture Case: Police given more time for investigation

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court has on Wednesday given more time to the police to complete investigation into the torture of minor housemaid Tayyaba by the wife of judicial officer. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Justice Saqib Nisar resumed hearing the Tayyaba torture case. During the proceedings, the parents of minor housemaid Tayyaba appeared before the court. DIG Islamabad presented the investigation report before the court and pleads for more time to investigate into the incident. Additional sessions judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan was also present in the Supreme Court, however his wife Maheen Zafar did not appear. Raja Khurram's lawyer presented bail documents for Maheen Zafar to which the CJP remarked, "This is great. Beat up a child and then say it is a bailable offence." He asked how accused Maheen Zafar was granted bail and asked if the bail was granted on the basis of agreement, adding that . The Chief Justice directed the concerned authorities to record detailed statements of concerned persons and present in the court. Presenting his arguments, Human Rights lawyer Justice (r) Tariq Mehmood said that the bill relating to the children rights was moved in the Senate but no progress was made in this regard, adding that it is also fault of the parents of Tayyaba who sold her. He said that the child labor law had not been revised. "If someone other than his parents forces him to work the penalty is only Rs200." The Human Rights Commission pleaded for time to review the report of the case. The court adjourned the hearing till January 25 and ordered to submit reply in the court.
