Teachers boycott classes in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – The Sindh government teachers boycotted classes on Friday in Karachi, against police torture on educators outside Karachi Press Club. According to the details garnered, teaching would be remained suspended at public schools in Karachi to mark their protest against the police torture. The protestors said that they would hold a major power show outside the KPC on Friday and added that teachers’ convoys across the province would participate in the protest demonstration. The representative said that they had already announced to boycott the matriculation examinations scheduled from April 1. He warned of resistance, if the government tried to conduct the examination through external elements. Karachi police used water cannon to disperse protesters teachers

Earlier, Karachi police fired water cannon and resorted to baton-charge and tear-gas to prevent protestors from moving towards the Chief Minister’s House to lodge their protest. The teachers were protesting for the fulfillment of a host of their demands, some of which were already agreed to by the provincial authorities. As teachers arrived at the scheduled time at the Karachi Press Club and tried to proceed onwards, the police already deployed at all surrounding roads baton-charged them, fired tear gas shells and used water cannon, causing injuries to some protesting teachers. During the police action, scores of the protesters were also detained.
