Thalassemia, hemophilia patients being affected due to coronavirus

LAHORE (92 News) – The routine of life has been disrupted across the country as thalassemia and hemophilia patients at homes are also being affected due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. In wake of the spread of COVID-19 and lockdown across the country, the number of blood donors decreased due to social distancing and quarantine them at home. It is pertinent to mention here that the deadly epidemic coronavirus has suspended system life worldwide. Like others, children with thalassemia and hemophilia are severely affected. Blood transfusions became a test for NGOs. Due to the lockdown, educational institutions and factories were closed, and blood donors were restricted to their homes. Children with blood disorders started crying out to blood donors. “We have about 2,500 registered patients, requiring about 50 to 60 blood bottles daily,” said Chief Administrator Thalassemia of Pakistan Abdul Manam Khan. Talking to the 92 News, Thalassemia Federation Chairperson Dr Javeria appealed from the donors to donate blood for the children patients of thalassemia and hemophilia during this difficult time. Patients with thalassemia and hemophilia are needed blood as a diet. Infected children are appealing for blood donors to donate blood to the breath of life.
