Those who cast fake votes are afraid of EVMs, says Babar Awan

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan has said that those who cast fake votes are afraid of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The adviser said while addressing a news conference along with State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib in Islamabad on Friday. He also said that the government is serious about the electronic voting machine but the opposition parties are afraid of this process.

Babar Awan said that nobody other than parliament has the power to legislate and legislation is to make elections fair and transparent. He maintained that electronic voting machines are imperative to ensure free and transparent elections in the country, adding that EVMs will help end rigging in elections.

Babar Awan said overseas Pakistanis are asset of the country and their right of vote cannot be sabotaged. He said Parliament is supreme in Pakistan as it is the only forum for legislation. "We always tried to remove deadlocks with the opposition," he added.

Meanwhile, he mentioned that the opposition should play its constructive role in the best interest of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Farrukh Habib said free and transparent elections are foundation of strong and sustainable democracy. He said the opposition has no interest in the process of legislation and it is not cooperating with the government.
