LAHORE (92 News) - Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi has said that those who raised slogans of ‘vote ko izzat do’ have damaged the supremacy of the Punjab Assembly.

During a meeting with former governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, he said that Governor of Punjab Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman has done a very illegal thing by issuing an ordinance. “Those who raised slogans of ‘vote ko izzat do’ had damaged the Punjab Assembly which is the largest democratic institution. An attempt was made to deprive the Punjab Assembly of its powers through the Governor.”

“As in the guest gallery, there is no status of election; there is no constitutional and legal status of convening a meeting anywhere other than the assembly. According to the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, only the Speaker can terminate the meeting convened by the Speaker and no one else has the power,” he added.

Former Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema has said that Punjab Assembly has the status of an institution; to weaken it is to weaken the constitution and democracy. “The assembly has passed a resolution to nullify the ordinance.”
