TLYR ends lockdown after reaching agreement with govt

LAHORE (92 News) – The Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) ended its dharna across the country after the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and religious party reached an agreement. Hundreds of TLYR supporters had been camping in various cities of the country including Lahore for the 12 days, calling for the acceptance of their demands. The government decision to give in to the Tehreek-e-Labbaik’s demands is a “major embarrassment” for the ruling PML-N as ahead of the 2018 general elections and underscores the influence of religious groups. The religious group had threatened to hold nationwide protests from Friday (today) if its demands were not met. According to the deal that was signed, police have lodged a case of six people killed during the Faizabad sit-in under murder and attempt to murder charges. The TLYR leaders said that the government had accepted their demands, adding that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah will appear before seven religious personalities and will accept their decision. Later, Tehreek-e-Labbaik chief called upon his supporters across the country to call off their respective sit-ins and open the roads.
