Torrential rain inundates several areas across country

LAHORE (92 News) – The intermittent torrential rain on Thursday has inundated several areas of the country. According to the details, weather turned more chilly due to incessant rain in plain and snowfall in mountainous areas on Thursday. However, the intermittent heavy rain has inundated parts of Punjab Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan. Meanwhile, power supply to the affected areas has been suspended. Flood condition created in Quetta, Makran Division and Lesbela while communication contact disconnected in Awaran area. The local administrations in rain-hit areas have sought Pakistan Army’s assistance to deal with the situation.
28 killed in Torrential rain related incidents
At least 28 people were killed across country in rain related incidents. However, the people including children killed in different incidents including collapsing of bridges, roofs and land sliding. Meanwhile, three bodies have been recovered from Hub in floods and three persons strangled in the land sliding due to the heavy rains. The roof of a house on Multan’s Budhla Road collapsed due to the rain, killing a woman and her three children. Another two people were also injured in the collapse and were taken to the hospital, according to rescue officials. In Dera Ghazi Khan’s Jhok Utra, heavy rainfall caused another roof to collapse. One person died and six people were injured. In the Rojhan tehsil of Rajanpur another roof collapsed claimed two lives. A man and his wife were killed in the collapse while another couple was critically injured. A school teacher in Gujranwala and two brothers were also killed in Noshehra. It rained across Punjab, causing temperatures to drop in several areas. In Lahore, the Meteorological Department has forecast another 24 hours of rain.
Snowfall in hilly areas
Snowfall blanketed the northern areas, while hilly areas received up to one-foot snow. Light rain and snowfall in Abbottabad, Nathia Gali, Ayubia and Thandiani caused temperatures to drop. The Met department has predicted that rain and snowfall will continue in Galyat today. It also rained in Azad Kashmir. The area also received snow. The roads to Wadi Neelam, Wadi Lipa and other mountainous regions have been closed due to the snowfall. Heavy rainfall and snow in Muzzaffarabad led to the suspension of electricity supply and phone lines being cut off.
Widespread more rain with snowfall over hills is expected
Reports of intermittent rains including Islamabad and Rawalpindi and snowfalls over the hills have been received from different parts of the country. Widespread more rain/thunderstorm with snowfall over hills is expected in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while at scattered places in Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions during the next 12 hours. However, cold and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Minimum temperature of some major cities recorded on Thursday morning. Islamabad ten degree centigrade, Lahore fourteen, Karachi twenty-two,  Peshawar seven, Quetta five, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit five and Murree minus one degree centigrade. Meanwhile, widespread rains were recorded in different areas of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. The Met Office forecasts more rain during the week till Friday.
