Traders stage demonstrations against withholding tax, boycott business with banks

LAHORE (92 News) – Traders staged demonstrations against the withholding tax across the country on Friday. They also boycotted the business with banks. 92 News aired special transmission with regard to the withholding tax for continuous four days. In Lahore, traders staged a demonstration outside Masjid-e-Shuhda on the Mall Road. They said that they had rejected the withholding tax. They chanted slogans against the government. They said that Rs 850 billion had been withdrawn from the banking sector since the imposition of withholding tax. They feared that the banks could go bankrupt. They asked the government to change its attitude otherwise it would be very difficult for it to run. All the business centers remained closed on Hall Road and Mall Road.
