Tripartite dialogue in Islamabad today to discuss Afghan peace, region

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Tripartite dialogue among Pakistan, Afghanistan and China is taking place in the federal capital today to discuss Afghan peace process and security situation in the region. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi and Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani will represent their states in a high-level meeting to discuss in detail the ongoing Afghan peace and role Pakistan and China in the process, says Foreign Office spokesman. The three FMs will lead their respective delegations in the dialogue. Diplomatic experts are of the view that the today's meeting among three countries carries much significance in the backdrop of minimized US role in Afghanistan as hinted by US president Donald Trump. Afghan Taliban and US diplomats have also been been continuing multiple sessions of negotiations in Doha Qatar to strike a deal that is aimed at ending 18-year war and withdrawal of US and allied forces from Afghanistan. In return, US wants a commitment by the Taliban that the country will not be used as a launchpad for global terror attacks.
