TV anchor among five shot dead in Karachi incidents

KARACHI (92 News) – Five people, including an anchor of a private TV channel, were killed in two firing incidents on Tuesday. According to the police, Mureed Abbas, the TV anchor, was shot dead after a scuffle over a monetary dispute in Khayaban-e-Bukhari area, Defence. Atif Zaman had called Mureed Abbas and Khizar to his office. After an exchange of hot words, Atif opened fire on Mureed Abbas who died on the spot. He shot Khizar dead when he tried to flee. Later, Atif Zaman also committed suicide. In another incident, unknown bikers opened fire on some people taking food in a hotel in Pehalwan Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. As a result, two people died on the spot. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and IGP Sindh Kaleem Imam have taken notice of the incident. In a tweet, DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor expressed grief over the murder of Mureed Abbas. PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto also expressed grief over the murder of Mureed Abbas. Murtaza Wahab said that the murder is an attempt to disrupt the peace of Karachi. PTI leader Haleem Adil termed the murder as an attack on the media.
