KARACHI (92 News) – The closure of departmental cricket has left several players jobless across the country. Muhammad Waqas, who was a member of the national team participating the Under-19 World Cup and ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, is forced to run an online bike. He picks rides throughout the day to make both ends meet. He was associated with a private bank and earned Rs60,000 per month. Muhammad Waqas, who has played 60 first class matches, said that he lost h is job after the closure of the departmental cricket. He appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to restore the department cricket to encourage the young players and promote the game in the country. On August 10, the federal cabinet had reportedly approved the new constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), ending the departmental cricket system. According to the new system, Pakistan’s domestic structure will have six teams namely Punjab, South Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan and Federal Capital Areas. Meanwhile, one team for each region would play the Grade-II tournament. The decision had faced strong opposition from former legendary cricketers, including Javed Miandad.
