NEW YORK (Web Desk) – The United Nations has appealed to India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint amid escalating tensions between the two countries along the Line of Control (LoC). In a statement, UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that UN Military Observer Group (UNMOG) in India and Pakistan observed and reported an increase in military activity at the LoC in recent days. The UN Military Observer Group was deployed in January 1949 to supervise the ceasefire between both countries in the disputed State of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan allow UN observers to monitor the LoC but India does not.
OIC expresses deep concern over worsening situation in Kashmir
Earlier, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed deep concern about the worsening situation in the Indian-held Jammu and Kashmir (IHK). In a statement, the OIC general secretariat of today said it is concerned about reports of deployment of additional paramilitary forces and use of banned cluster bombs by the Indian forces to target civilians. It also expressed sadness over civilian casualties resulting from ceasefire violations carried out by Indian forces across the Line of Control (LoC) and expresses solidarity with the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The OIC reiterated its call upon the international community to rise up to its responsibility for the peaceful resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has decided to effectively respond to any type of aggression or provocation from India with its people’s support during the National Security Council’s (NSC) meeting  under the chair of Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday. The prime minister has taken this decision during a meeting of the NSC to discuss issues pertaining to the national security in the wake of cluster bombs attack carried out by Indian forces against civilians in Neelum Valley.
