GENEVA (KMS) – Human rights advocate and UN special rapporteur on Human Rights Mary Lawlor has condemned the arrest of Khurram Parvez, a Srinagar-based rights defender, by Indian authorities in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Mary Lawlor has said in a tweet, “I’m hearing disturbing reports that Khurram Parvez was arrested today in Kashmir & is at risk of being charged by authorities in India with terrorism-related crimes. He’s not a terrorist; he’s a Human Rights Defender.”

David Kaye, the former UN Special Rapporteur on Promotion and Protection of The Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression also took to the Twitter and said, the detention of Parvez is as yet another extraordinary abuse in Kashmir by India’s ‘counter-terrorism’ NIA.
