LAHORE (92 News) – UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres paid rich tributes to the founder of Pakistan, saying that UN peacekeeping missions are also based on the principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Speaking during a visit in NUST university, the UN chief said that he has seen himself the professional skills of the Pakistani military, police and civilians in peace missions. He also thanked Pakistanis for key services for a secure and peaceful world. “Pakistan is the first country who deployed Pakistani women peacekeepers in South Kivu and Congo and set a great example for other partner countries by deploying women peacekeepers. Pakistani women played a vital role in technical education, medical support and psychological support,” the UN secretary general explained. Antonio Gutres also mentioned that peace in one place means the establishment of peace everywhere. “Pakistan is a permanent and reliable partner in peace efforts worldwide, Pakistan has established the first peace party in the Congo in 1960, under the UN flag. 157 Pakistani soldiers, policemen and civilians sacrificed their lives, we will never forget Pakistani sacrifices for peace,” he added.
UN chief stresses need to address environmental pollution issue
Antonio Guterres has stressed the need to equip new generation with modern technologies besides bringing changes in curriculum. Speaking at a dialogue of a university in Lahore on Tuesday, he said youth will have an important role at the world body in 21st century. “We will also have to take decision in the context of climate changes as the increasing pollution is the biggest issue,” the UN secretary general maintained. He also emphasized on dialogue between institutions. On the other hand, UN chief Antonio Guterres will spend busy day in Lahore today (Tuesday).  The schedule of today’s engagements of the UN chief has been finalized in Lahore. UN chief along with his delegation reached Lahore from Islamabad on Monday night on a two-day visit to the Punjab capital. According to the schedule, the UN secretary general will administer anti-polio drops to children in Lahore. He will also visit Shahi Qila and Badshahi Mosque. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will also meet students at the University of Sciences and address them. Antonio Guterres will also visit Kartarpur where he will meet members of Sikh community.
