UN secretary general leaves Pakistan after four-day successful visit

LAHORE (92 News) – United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres left Pakistan on Wednesday after completing a successful four-day visit. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to United Nations Munir Akram saw him off at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Zulfiqar Hameed and others were also present on the occasion. Before leaving, Principal Information Officer (PIO) Muhammad Tahir Hassan presented picture album to the UN secretary general at the airport. Appreciating Pakistan’s rich culture, the UN chief thanked the people of Pakistan in a tweet. “I concluded my visit to Pakistan after enjoying the rich history and vibrant culture of Lahore - from the Lahore Fort, a @UNESCO. World Heritage Site, to the majestic Badshahi mosque,” the UN chief tweeted. “Thank you to the people of Pakistan for a wonderful visit!” Another tweet, the UN chief also gave a message to Pakistani youth. “More than 60% of Pakistan’s population is under 30 years of age. My message to Pakistan’s youth during our #UN75 dialogue: Stay engaged. Keep thinking big. Keep up the pressure to build a better world.” Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has termed that opening Kartarpur Corridor is good omen for promoting interfaith harmony.  The UNC chief visited Kartarpur and reviewed arrangements at the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. Upon his arrival, he was received by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Pir Noorul Qadri. The UN chief also met with various Sikh leader and shared meal with them, who were already present at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahab. He also laid floral wreath at the grave of Baba Guru Nanak. UNSC Antonio Guterres also laid floral wreath at the grave of Baba Guru Nanak and visited different sections in the complex. On the occasion, he admired the Pakistani authorities for opening Kartarpur Corridor, saying that the it is good step for promoting interfaith harmony.
