BHIT SHAH (92 News) – The annual Urs celebrations of the great Sufi saint and poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai began at shrine town of Bhit Shah on Monday with enthusiasm and fervor. The Urs celebrations that span three days include literary conference, Sufi music recital and spiritual activities to highlight the Sufi teachings of the saint. The Sindh government had announced a public holiday on the first day (Monday) of three-day Urs. All of the schools, colleges and offices will remain closed on the occasion. Sindh Governor Imran Ismail laid Chaddar and the floral wreaths at the Mazar of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai to officially open the proceedings of the Urs. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah will also attend the ending ceremony of annual Urs and different Sufi Sufi singer including Abida Parveen will sing Qawwali or Sufiana Kalam. Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (1689 to 1752) was a great Sufi poet and saint. He is widely considered to be the greatest poet of Sindhi language. His collected poems were compiled in “Shah Jo Risalo”, which exists in numerous versions and has been translated into English, Urdu, and several other languages. Tight security arrangements have been made for the occasion. CCTV cameras have been installed while devotees will enter the shrine after passing walkthrough gates placed at all entry points. The large number of police officials along with Pakistan Rangers personnel will perform security duties to prevent any untoward incident.
