WASHINGTON (Web Desk) The visas of approximately 450 international students at several US universities have been cancelled, including those of students from Pakistan and other Muslim-majority countries.
According to US media reports, the cancellations occurred without prior notice or legal action. While the exact reasons for the cancellations remain unclear, officials from various colleges and universities suggest that the government is carrying out this action discreetly.
Reports indicate that the Trump administration is particularly targeting students who have demonstrated in support of Palestinians, although some visas were cancelled even for individuals who did not participate in any protests.
Affected universities include prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, and the University of Michigan.
Specifically, the visas of 12 students and graduates at UCLA were cancelled, and one student from the University of Michigan was forced to leave the country.
Most of the visa cancellations occurred during an audit of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
Universities are offering legal assistance to affected students, while educational institutions, human rights advocates, student organisations have raised significant concerns over the matter.
