US refuses to comment on Indian-claimed surgical strike

WASHINGTON (92 News) – US State Department spokesperson John Kirby has encouraged Pakistan and India to hold dialogue over the issue of Kashmir. Addressing a press briefing, Kirby said the US has been working to deescalate tensions in the region. He, however, refused to comment on the Indian claim of surgical strike. Responding to a question, he said, “I’d let Indian authorities speak to that. What we want to see is the tensions de-escalate.” US, UN laud anti-honor killing bill The United Nations and United States have welcomed the bill passed by Pakistan’s parliament against honor killings. Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq said the United Nations has been expressing its concern over the cases of honor killings and anything that is done to end this practice was welcome. Meanwhile, the United States has also appreciated the legislation against the honor killings. Kirby said the passage of this bill is a good gesture and an important milestone for the protection of women in Pakistan. He said spreading of awareness and bringing the culprits into justice is vital. Kirby said the US will continue supporting Islamabad on these steps.
