US Senate rejects resolution against F-16 sale to Pakistan
March 11, 2016
WASHINGTON (92 News) – The United States Senate has on Friday rejected a resolution to block the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan as opponents of the $700 million deal insisted no US tax dollars should be used to subsidize the transaction unless Islamabad becomes a more trusted ally. The Senate voted 71-24 against a resolution that would have blocked the $700 million deal with Lockhead Martin Corp. Senator Rand Paul, the resolution's sponsor and a former GOP presidential candidate, said that though the government of Pakistan has been considered America's ally in the fight on terrorism, Pakistan's behavior would suggest otherwise.
