US State Dept OKs possible sale of F-16 equipment to Pakistan -Pentagon

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The US State Department has approved the potential sale of F-16 aircraft sustainment and related equipment to Pakistan in a deal valued at up to $450 million, the Pentagon said.

The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Corp, the Pentagon said.

According to the Pentagon, an agreement worth 450 million dollars was signed between Pakistan and the United States. The main contract for the equipment will be awarded to aerospace company Lockheed Martin Corporation.

According to statements of the American Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the request to provide repair equipment for the aircraft was made by the government of Pakistan. Congress has also been informed about this possible sale.

According to the DSCA announcement, the F-16 aircraft does not include any new capabilities and weapons additions.
