US supports India's bid for NSG membership; Pakistan’s request to be determined

WASHINGTON (92 News) – An important meeting of Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) will be held today as the US State Department has written a letter for the inclusion of India in the group while other countries including China, New Zealand, Turkey, South Africa and Australia have opposed its inclusion. Talking to media in Washington on Friday, Mark Toner said that Pakistan and India should take steps to reduce tensions between the two countries, adding that the US supports the dialogues between arch rivals. He said that the good relations between Pakistan, Afghanistan and India are not only in their best interest but also in the interest of the entire region. Commenting on Pakistan’s membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), he said that Pakistan’s request to become a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), will be determined by a consensus. He said that the US supports India to join the group but the group member will take decision in this regard after reaching consensus.
