US trying to reduce differences between Afghan President and Chief Executive: Mark Toner

WASHINGTON (92 News) – US State Department spokesman Mark Toner has on Thursday said that the United States has made a long-term commitment to build a more stable, peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Afghan future. Addressing a press briefing in Washington on Thursday, Mark Toner said that Taliban needs to recognize that it has no future in fighting and that it should seek talks with the Afghan Government. He said that the US is trying to reduce differences between Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah. The spokesman said that The US is monitoring the presence of ISIL-affiliated groups very closely in Afghanistan, he said. “We’re actively engaged with the Government of Afghanistan and our partners in the region to prevent that from taking place. We don’t want to see them gain safe haven or material support from the Taliban or anyone,” he added.
