US, UN Chief Ban Ki-moon concerned over Kashmir killings
July 12, 2016
NEW YORK (92 News) – United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has on Monday expressed concerned over the tense situation in Kashmir following the killing of Hurriyet leader Burhan Wani. United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that the UN chief has noted with concern the situation unfolding in Kashmir. Dujarric strongly rejected remarks by a journalist that the UN chief, who had earlier in the day addressed the press on the situation in South Sudan, has “brushed aside” the issue of Kashmir and is not sufficiently addressing it. On the other hand, the United States has expressed concern on killing of innocent people at the hands of Indian troops in the Occupied Kashmir. In a press briefing in Washington on Tuesday, US State Department Spokesperson John Kirby said that all sides to the Kashmir issue need to make efforts for finding a peaceful solution to the issue.
