WASHINGTON (92 News) - The United States of Pakistan has urged Pakistan and Iran to express restraint in the current situation.

Responding to queries during the briefing on Thursday, US States Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller said: "We are concerned about escalating tensions in the region. We have been incredibly concerned about the potential for escalation since October 7, and that’s why we have engaged in intense diplomatic efforts to try to prevent escalation. I will say we noted the comments from the Government of Pakistan about the importance of cooperative relations between Pakistan and its neighbours. We thought those were productive and useful statements. And certainly, there is no need for escalation, and we would urge restraint on all sides in this case."

To a question about the US support in the situation, he said that Iran’s attacks, not just the strikes that it has launched in the past three days against three of its neighbours but it has long history of funding terrorism, of funding instability, and sowing discord in the Middle East.

To another question whether the US treating the Pakistan-Iran tensions as part of the spillover from Gaza, Mathew Miller said: "No, I do not think it is in any way, shape, or form connected to Gaza. But whenever you see things – see strikes in the region – given the tensions in the region, there is the risk for an increase in conflict, which is something that we are trying to avoid."
