US wants better relations with Pakistan, says State Secretary Rex Tillerson

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – US Secretary of the State Rex Tillerson called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday. During the meeting, they discussed matters of bilateral interest, cooperation in different sectors and regional situation. US State Secretary Rex Tillerson said that Pakistan is an important country in the region and America wants better relations with it. He said that Pakistan is playing an important role in the war against terrorism. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that Pakistan is committed to eradicating terrorism from the country. “Pakistan is looking forward to enhance security and economic relations with the United States,” he added. Sources said that Pakistan had expressed its reservations about the new US Afghan policy. The US Secretary of State was also briefed about the success achieved in the Operations Zarb-e-Azb and Raddul Fasaad. He lauded Pakistan’s role in the war against terrorism. The Pakistan leaders also highlighted the situation along the LoC and Occupied Kashmir. Both sides agreed to forward the Afghan reconciliation process. Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, DG ISI Naveed Mukhtar, secretary to PM, foreign secretary and other officials were also present in the meeting.
