US wants direct dialogue between Pakistan, India
September 8, 2019
WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – The US reaffirmed its support for direct dialogue between Pakistan and India on Indian Occupied Kashmir (Iok) and other issues. US State Department’s Acting Assistant Secretary Alice Wells took his twitter, social media micro-blogging website, and said that the US would continue to support direct dialogue between India and Pakistan on Kashmir and other issues of concern. She said this decision was stressed in Deputy Assistant Secretary Ervin Massinga’s recent meeting with the United States Council of Muslim Organisations leadership (USCMO). “The US continues to support direct dialogue between India and Pakistan on Kashmir and other issues of concern—a message stressed in Deputy Assistant Secretary Massinga’s recent meeting with @USCMO leadership. AGW,” she tweeted. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after Modi-led Indian government abrogated Article 370 of the constitution which granted special status to the Occupied Kashmir on August 5. Curfew and communication blockade continued at 35th day in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) from August 5 when Narendra Modi government announced scraping of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, the Kashmir valley remains under strict military siege on the 35th consecutive day today. All markets, schools and colleges are closed while transport is off the road. Internet, mobile, landlines and TV channels in most areas are shut. The valley remains cut off from the rest of the world due to continued blockade and suspension of communication services since 5th August. The valley represents a humanitarian crisis as the residents are facing severe shortage of essential commodities like baby food and life-saving drugs. After usurping all basic rights and freedoms of the people of the territory, Indian government is disallowing them to perform their religious obligations during the curfew.
