US welcomes Pak-India FMs meeting on sidelines of UNGA

WASHINGTON (92 News) – The United States (US) has welcomed a proposed meeting between the foreign ministers (FMs) of Pakistan and India on the sidelines of UN General Assembly on September 27. In his press weekly press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said that the meeting of federal ministers will pave the way for both the countries to build strong relations. She also said that this is good opportunity for the Indians and Pakistanis to be able to sit down and have a conversation together. The US Department spokesperson mentioned that the news report of FMs meeting has become the centre of attraction for all over the world. “We saw the reports about the positive messages being exchanged between Prime Minister Khan and also Prime Minister Modi, and we hope that the conditions will be set for a good, strong relationship, a good, strong bilateral relationship in the future,” she remarked. A day earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had written to his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, suggesting their foreign ministers meet in New York to try to break an impasse in ties. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said New Delhi had agreed to a meeting between Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi. On the other hand, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Sushma Suraj will meet at the sidelines of UN General Assembly on September 27 in New York. During the meeting, the Kashmir issue, terrorism, water conflict and including other matters would be discussed shortly.
