Veteran politician Meraj Muhammad Khan passes away

KARACHI (92 News) – Veteran politician and former federal minister Meraj Muhammad Khan has died in Karachi after protracted illness in the wee hours of Friday. He was 78. He was suffering from respiratory problem and was hospitalized at a private medical facility. The funeral prayers of the veteran politician would be offered later in the day. The deceased had played an important role in the Movement of Restoration of Democracy in 1983. Meraj Muhammad Khan was close companion of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Meraj led National Student Federation (NSF) and fought against Ayub Khan's dictatorship. He was one of the most popular leaders of 68 mass movement for democracy and represented Left in PPP. President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Meraj Muhammad Khan. The President said Meraj Muhammad Khan was the ideological politician and he never compromised. The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
