Violent protests erupt in Srinagar after arrest of Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik

SRINAGAR (92 News) – Violent protests erupted after the arrest of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik in Anantnag on Tuesday. Yasin Malik was visiting Batangoo village in Anantnag along with a rally to condole with the family of Zahid Rasool Bhat, one of the two victims of the October 9 petrol bomb attack on a Kashmir-bound truck at Udhampur. He was accompanied by Javaid Mir, leader of another JKLF faction, and Shabbir Dar of the Muslim Conference. Earlier, Yasin Malik had announced a 24-hour hunger strike in Batangoo village to protest Udhampur petrol bomb attack. The biggest demonstration was staged in Anantnag where police and the Army baton-charged the protesters. As the news of Malik's detention spread, a large number of youths took to streets in Maisuma, adjacent to Lal chowk, and pelted security forces with stones. Earlier, Malik had announced a 24-hour hunger strike in Batangoo village to protest the Udhampur petrol bomb attack. Talking exclusively to 92 News, Mushaal Malik, wife of Yasin Malik, said that her husband and other Hurriyat leaders have been tortured. She said that Kashmir is the biggest dispute between Pakistan and India.
