LAHORE (92 News) – Waleed Iqbal and Humayun Akhtar Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are vying for the NA-131 ticket for the by-elections. The PTI has decided to conduct a survey of the area to award the ticket to a suitable candidate. Ghulam Mohyuddin Dewan is likely to get the ticket for NA-124. However, Imran Khan will finalize the name of the candidate for the constituency. On July 25, Imran Khan obtained 84,313 votes in a nail-biting contest against PML-N’s strong candidate Kh Saad Rafique who secured 83,633 votes in NA-131. Imran had retained his Mianwali seat and vacated others after the ECP directed to tender resignation in case of winning more than one seat. The PTI chief emerged victorious in five National Assembly constituencies NA-35 Bannu, NA-53 Islamabad, NA-95 Mianwali, NA-131 Lahore and NA-243 Karachi in the general elections. On the other hand, PML-N bigwigs – former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former federal minister Abid Sher Ali and former Lahore mayor Khwaja Ahmad Hassan – are reportedly in the race for the party ticket for NA-124. The PML-N’s former MNAs Mehar Ishtiaq and Sohail Shaukat Butt are also lobbying for it.
