Watchdog won’t be part of any NRO: NAB chairman

LAHORE (92 News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal said on Thursday that the anti-graft watchdog had not given any National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to anybody, and was not even part of it. Addressing to the ceremony in Lahore, the NAB chairman the watchdog is an autonomous body and the current government never exerted pressure on it. “Even if such pressure comes NAB won't bow down,” he added. He stressed that Prime Minister Imran Khan doesn’t enjoy immunity from anti-graft body’s probe. “If the leader of the opposition can face such probes then the premier also doesn’t have the immunity from NAB probe.” Javed Iqbal said that he never disgrace the prime minister, adding that the respect and honor increased due to the NAB’s indiscriminate actions against corruption and the white-collar crimes. He said that the world acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts against corruption. Javed Iqbal said that NAB is working under the constitution and added that the accountability watchdog has the right to inquire even leader of the opposition. He said that NAB helped ensure rule of law in the country. Javed Iqbal vowed to strive for attaining logical conclusion in all mega corruption cases and the watchdog would continue its actions against the corrupt. The anti-graft watchdog chief said that he said it on the day of his oath-taking that he will work under the ambit of law and constitution.
Earlier, the NAB Chairman has said that corruption is cancer and vowed to uproot the cancer of corruption from Pakistan.
Javed Iqbal said that that everybody in Pakistan wants an end to corruption. He added that the only solution to eliminate corruption is self-accountability.
